What Is the SDCP Solar Battery Savings Program?
San Diego Community Power (SDCP) has relaunched its Solar Battery Savings Program, and Baker Home Energy is proud to participate as an approved installer. After a successful run in 2024, this program offers two major financial benefits:
- Upfront rebate to lower installation costs.
- Performance payments for supporting the grid during peak hours.

How It Works
Call Baker Home Energy to get a proposal on adding a Home Battery into your existing solar system. If you live in SDCP territory, you will be eligible for a rebate on a home battery.
Once your battery is installed, your solar system charges your battery during the day, then during peak hours (4–9 PM weekdays) your enrolled battery powers your home and sends excess energy to the grid. This reduces demand on the grid and allows SDCP to power other community needs.
Benefits
- Lower upfront cost with rebates
- Ongoing savings through performance payments
- Energy resilience during outages
- Maximize your solar investment
- Support a cleaner, stronger local grid
Incentives
Upfront rebate: Up to $250–$500 per kWh of battery capacity
Performance payments: $0.10/kWh for energy discharged beyond your home load and exported to the grid
Example:
A Tesla Powerwall (13.5 kWh) could earn:
- $6,750 upfront rebate
- $168.75 annually in ongoing payments
Eligibility
You qualify if you’re an SDCP customer, own your home, and install a new solar + battery system or add battery storage to an existing solar setup. SDCP customers typically reside following cities in SDG&E’s service territory:
- Chula Vista
- Encinitas
- Imperial Beach
- La Mesa
- National City
- San Diego
- Unincorporated communities of County of San Diego

What Is a CCA and Why Does It Matter?
San Diego Community Power (SDCP) is a Community Choice Aggregator (CCA), a local not-for-profit energy program that allows cities and counties to purchase electricity on behalf of residents and businesses, instead of relying solely on investor-owned utilities like SDG&E. CCAs give communities control over their energy mix, often prioritizing renewable sources and reinvesting profits into local programs. Learn more about CCAs and how they can get you a free battery: https://cal-cca.org/powered/
Why SDCP Exists
San Diego Community Power was formed to provide clean, affordable energy and local control. Its mission is to keep energy dollars in the community, reduce carbon emissions, and offer competitive rates while funding programs like the Solar Battery Savings Program.
SDCP and SDG&E: How They Work Together
SDCP buys or generates electricity, while SDG&E continues to deliver power, maintain infrastructure, and handle billing. Your SDCP charges appear on your SDG&E bill under ‘Electric Generation.’ This partnership ensures reliability while giving customers cleaner energy choices.
Why Programs Like SDCP’s Battery Incentive Are Critical
Battery incentive programs benefit everyone:
- Homeowners: Lower upfront costs and ongoing savings
- The Grid: Reduces peak demand stress, improving reliability
- Communities: Frees up grid capacity for critical needs like hospitals and emergency services
- Environment: Supports renewable energy integration and reduces fossil fuel reliance
